Can Borealis provide music for a wedding ceremony, drinks reception and wedding breakfast
/ meal?
Yes. Borealis can play as your guests arrive for the ceremony itself, the music during
the ceremony if required and the drinks reception or wedding breakfast / meal thereafter.
This can be in a variety of combinations depending on band members’ availability
and the venue. The music can be of a formal or informal nature, classical or easy
listening pop standards, religious or secular (for the ceremony).
If you contact Borealis by email with your requirements, a band member will get in
touch personally to discuss your needs and suggest the most suitable workaround for
your wedding day.
Please note: Borealis is not a wedding or ceilidh band and don’t generally play ‘dance’
music. On your wedding day, Borealis’s music is perfect as background music during
the wedding meal or drinks reception.
Likewise, if you are a wedding or special event organiser perhaps in a hotel then
Borealis may be what you’re looking for as entertainment at corporate events and
functions. (top)
Can Borealis provide background music for a dinner party or drinks reception?
Yes. Borealis can play as you enjoy your meal or social gathering. Or, alternatively,
perform in a recital format before or after your meal. Especially suitable for special
occasions such as anniversaries, special interest clubs and society groups who may
be enjoying an evening out in a hotel venue. (top)
What kind of music do you play?
All sorts. Light classical, jazz, popular songs, songs from the shows, a cappella,
Burns. As Borealis has played together as a band for a few years and the individual
members of the band are very experienced, we instinctively know the type of music
which suits a particular occasion. We are aware that family gatherings will generally
speaking have a wide age range and are usually a chance for the more ‘mature’ members
of the family to have a wee outing. We therefore ensure that we are not ‘loud’, but
that the music compliments the setting. When you contact Borealis to make a booking
enquiry, if we think Borealis is not suitable for your event, we will tell you! (top)
Do you bring your own sound equipment?
Yes. We take care of all that side of things. The PA (public address) system is our
own and we bring it with us. (top)
How much?
It depends on the type of event, the audience size, venue, charity event or not,
distance, festival, ticketed or not, club or society event, allocated time slot,
Burns Supper, hotel lounge. There are a lot of factors involved. The best thing to
do is email the band. (top)
Is Borealis a ceilidh band?
No. The band members are not ‘traditional Scottish music’ orientated, but do include
some Scottish songs in their repertoire. (top)
Do you do community events?
We still try to do genuine community based events at very little cost, because we
believe in them! On those occasions, we hope we can offset the costs with a few CD
sales. (top)
Please note: Borealis don’t turn up to your event with some music under their arm.
We bring a fair amount of music gear with us. We need to have access to your venue
at least one and a half hours before kick off.
Do Borealis use backing tracks?
No. Borealis is a completely live band. What you hear is what you get. (top)
How far in advance do I need to book Borealis?
As far ahead as possible. Borealis is not a band that does the ‘circuit. We limit
our number of performances each year, which means we can maintain high standards
and tailor make our playing programme to your needs. January/February is a busy time
because we specialise in the songs of Robert Burns and early booking is recommended
at that time. (top)
What size of audience does Borealis perform to?
Minimum audience is sixty... and thereon up to three hundred plus.... (top)
Where can I hear Borealis play?
This is problematic as the vast majority of Borealis gigs are private functions.
We are in the process of putting together a promotional video which will be available
online soon. In the meantime ask around. All we can say is we generally get asked
back! We are completely professional in our approach but good fun too! (top)
What can I expect if I book Borealis for a Burns Night or Burns Supper?
A great night with live music. We play Burns’ songs in an easy listening, accessible
style with a modern twist.
Depending on the venue, we don’t mind setting up two extra microphones for use by
after dinner speakers through our sound system. (top)
Yes. And this is an area we want to expand. Our programme has been tried and tested
with audiences large and small to great acclaim and we are now very keen to be approached
by event organisers, festival organisers and corporate entertainment agencies to
liaise with us in this regard. (top)

The band specialises in the songs of Robert Burns and you will find excerpts from
these throughout this web site. (top)
